Surface roughness is an important indicator in metal cutting. In this paper, Taguchi method was applied to optimize turning parameters to reduce surface roughness during hard turning SKD61 steel. The parameters of the cutting process selected for investigation include cutting speed, depth of cut and feedrate. In addition, cooling conditions were also investigated with three different conditions including dry cutting, MQL and wet machining. The research provided an optimal machining condition to produce the smallest roughness.
