THE STUDY OF THE MASS VARIATION OF FORWARDER’S BUNDLE ON THE BASIS OF MACHINE EXPERIMENT

The purpose of the research was to form objective information for timber industry enterprises about the mass of forwarder’s bundle, contributing to the rational choice of specific models of forwarders and the mode of their work for the natural production conditions of the Republic of Karelia. Also, the purpose of the research was to generate information for manufacturers of forest machinery, which can be used to substantiate the main parameters of forwarders in the process of improving their designs. The following models of forwarders have been considered within the framework of the present study: John Deere 1210Е, John Deere 1110Е, Ponsse Elk, Ponsse Wisent, Amkodor 2661-01, Rottne F13D, Rottne F15D, Rottne F18D. Data on stem forms have been collected in order to assess the characteristics of a bundle of logs. Information from harvesters recorders have been the data sources. Characteristics of bundles have been determined based on computer experiment. Characteristics of bundles vary to a quite substantial extent. Load capacity of the considered models of forwarders when transporting a bundle formed from 6.1 m long spruce sawlog or 5 m long birch fuelwood is not sufficient. We recommend that forwarder operators should load the load area by 75 % at the most, when making up a bundle of 6 m long spruce assortments and by 64 % at the most, when making up a bundle of 5 m long birch assortments. It will allow not exceeding load capacity of the machine with high probability.
