Closed Form Solution of Load-Displacement Curve for Cracked Components during Plastic Failure

ABSTRACT: A failure mode (ligament yielding) of cracked components is researched in the ductile fracture. In the model, the displacement of components consists of two parts, one is the linear elastic displacement and the other is the elastic-plastic displacement. Energy difference rate method in fracture mechanics and complementary energy principle in solid mechanics are used in the process of analyzing the linear elastic displacement. And three zone mechanics model is built during analyzing the elastic-plastic displacement. Based on those, an analytic closed form solution of load-displacement for cracked components during plastic failure is established, the results from that solution are comparatively consistent with experimental data.
