ABSTRACT: This investigation deals with the machining characteristics of Al6061-CSA metal matrix composite obtained from Stir casting–pellet method. The effect of cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and material parameter weight percentage of reinforcement on Metal Removal Rate (MRR) and Surface Roughness (SR) are examined by Taguchi based Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) method using Grey Relational Grade (GRG) value as combined responses measure. The turning operations are carried out in CNC machine with carbide cutting tool insert. According to the Taguchi quality concept, an L16 orthogonal array is selected for conducting test runs. GRA values and Taguchi’s signal to noise ratio are used for multi-response optimization. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is utilized to determine the effect of parameters in terms of GRG. Response surface model with interactions are developed for output study parameters of the surface roughness and metal removal rate in terms of GRG. The accuracy of this model is verified by conducting conformation test.
